Insert Coin To Continue: Ready Player One?

Spielberg is back… and he’s delivered another classic for the big screen. Ready Player One is a film based on a 2011 novel by Ernest Cline (who also had a hand in writing for the film adaptation). It’s set in Columbus, OH in the year 2045, where the real world has become so dire that the world escapes reality by using Virtual Reality to engage with others, as well as work and play. The creator of the VR system (OASIS) is James Halliday, who recently passed away. Before he did,... Read More

Go Chucky Go! Berry’s 90th Birthday

Happy Birthday to a music icon. Sometimes, that word “icon” gets thrown around way too much. It absolutely applies here 100% – a man who revolutionised Rock and Roll, and one of the main people we can thank for how music in the modern world has been shaped. From iconic tracks such as “Roll Over Beethoven” and the instantly recognisable “Johnny B. Goode”, Berry has provided many hits that not only have been covered plenty of times over the decades, but have been so instrumental in influencing all our favourite... Read More

Sniffin’ Glue: One Year Publishing, 39 Years of Iconic Status

Are we really celebrating the 40th anniversary of a magazine that lasted just one single year? Yes, yes we are, because it was still influential. Sniffin’ Glue and Other Rock ‘n’ Roll Habits…, to give it its full name, made its debut in the world on this week 40 years ago. Initially the punk music fanzine only sold about 50 copies each month, but as more got to know about it, the numbers would grow to about 15,000. As a fanzine, Sniffin’ Glue was much different to your average published content:... Read More

Oh Say Can You Tee(Shirt)?

Just own the night, like the 4th of July – it’s America’s Independence Day! As Americans enjoy their Monday off (as written by an Englishman who’s totally not bitter about being in the office…), let’s look at some of our US-themed favourites in store…   The Only Boss I Listen To – Bruce Springsteen The man Born In The USA, and the man behind many a Presidential candidates’ poor choice of theme song. While the chorus may be come across as full of patriotic pride, the verses are telling the... Read More

Great Scott! Going Back To The Future… Again!

It wasn’t that long ago that we celebrated the day Marty McFly and the Doc came to the year 2015… and it wasn’t quite what we were expecting. However, this time we’re looking back to when Marty went to 1955, and the Enchantment Under The Sea dance, held at Hill Valley High School in the fictional town of Hill Valley, California. (Has anyone tell them that’s an oxymoron…?) On Saturday November 12th, following a series of events which led to the possibility of his parents never meeting and thus not... Read More

Born To Lose… He Lived To Win: Lemmy Kilmister (1945-2015)

On Christmas Eve, he celebrated his 70th birthday. On Boxing Day, he learned he had extremely aggressive cancer. Yesterday, the rock icon sadly passed away. It was a whirlwind final few days for the Motorhead lead singer. Today though, many fans across the world will mourn the passing of Ian Fraser Kilmister. Unsure of how he actually gained the nickname of Lemmy, it was claimed it came from the phrase “lend me a quid ’til Friday” (the “lend me” part being slurred to say “Lemmy”) – due to a habit... Imagine All The People, Living Life In Peace…

“You may say I’m a dreamer, but I’m not the only one. I hope someday you’ll join us, and the world can live as one…” – John Lennon On this day 35 years ago, we lost an icon of the music industry in the cruelest manner possible. Coming home late in the evening to his New York apartment with Yoko Ono, John Lennon was shot four times in the back by Mark Chapman (a man who’d received Lennon’s autograph mere hours beforehand). He was pronounced dead on arrival at Roosevelt... Read More
