Insert Coin To Continue: Ready Player One?

Spielberg is back… and he’s delivered another classic for the big screen. Ready Player One is a film based on a 2011 novel by Ernest Cline (who also had a hand in writing for the film adaptation). It’s set in Columbus, OH in the year 2045, where the real world has become so dire that the world escapes reality by using Virtual Reality to engage with others, as well as work and play. The creator of the VR system (OASIS) is James Halliday, who recently passed away. Before he did,... Read More

Long Live The King

Incredibly, today marks 40 years since the passing of one of music’s biggest icons – if not THE biggest of them all. Everyone knows Elvis Presley. The Mississippi-born star is responsible for the evolution of the popular music scene we all know and love today – the leading figure in the rock ‘n’ roll world, his chart successes and media appearances across TV & film speak for themselves. His 1956 debut “Heartbreak Hotel” was a #1 hit in his home country of America, and a #2 single here in the... Read More

Go Chucky Go! Berry’s 90th Birthday

Happy Birthday to a music icon. Sometimes, that word “icon” gets thrown around way too much. It absolutely applies here 100% – a man who revolutionised Rock and Roll, and one of the main people we can thank for how music in the modern world has been shaped. From iconic tracks such as “Roll Over Beethoven” and the instantly recognisable “Johnny B. Goode”, Berry has provided many hits that not only have been covered plenty of times over the decades, but have been so instrumental in influencing all our favourite... Read More

Sniffin’ Glue: One Year Publishing, 39 Years of Iconic Status

Are we really celebrating the 40th anniversary of a magazine that lasted just one single year? Yes, yes we are, because it was still influential. Sniffin’ Glue and Other Rock ‘n’ Roll Habits…, to give it its full name, made its debut in the world on this week 40 years ago. Initially the punk music fanzine only sold about 50 copies each month, but as more got to know about it, the numbers would grow to about 15,000. As a fanzine, Sniffin’ Glue was much different to your average published content:... Read More

While the chorus may be come across as full of patriotic pride, the verses are telling the... Read More

Happy Birthday John Bonham – On His 68th

Today marks what would’ve been John Bonham‘s 68th birthday. Considered one of the greatest drummers in the rock industry, his fast paced and powerful drumming served to create the iconic sound we all know and love from Led Zeppelin, but Bonham never actually had any professional drumming lessons. Instead, he learned by himself with tips and help from other drummers from his local Redditch region. During his school years, John’s headmaster from his secondary school wrote in his report that he would either “become a dustman or a millionaire”. Good... Read More
