The Mineshaft: One Of New York’s Most Infamous Clubs

Long before New York’s Meatpacking District became a luxury shopping destination, it was home to one of the most legendary underground clubs in LGBTQ+ history: the Mineshaft. Hidden behind an unmarked entrance at 835 Washington Street, the club became a symbol of sexual freedom, leather culture, nightlife rebellion, and unapologetic self-expression during the late 1970s and early 1980s. Opened in 1976 and managed by Wally Wallace, the Mineshaft wasn’t a disco and it certainly wasn’t mainstream. It operated as a private members-only leather and BDSM club in Manhattan’s Meatpacking District,... Read More

Remembering Keith Flint

It was on this day 5 years ago Keith Flint – originally a dancer for the group The Prodigy before becoming its lead singer, sadly passed away aged just 49. Originally formed in 1990, The Prodigy were one of the biggest names from the electronic dance scene to help bring the genre into mainstream radio. There’s A Starman Waiting In The Sky: David Bowie (1947-2016)

There’s a sense of sad deja-vu here. Not even half a month ago, days after celebrating his 70th birthday we learned of the passing of Motorhead’s Lemmy Kilmister from cancer. Is This The Real Life? Behind the third best selling single in UK history…

On this day 40 years ago, 5 minutes and 55 seconds of one of the most popular songs of all time became the UK number one single. Today, it is the third biggest selling single of all-time in this country. That is, of course, Queen’s Bohemian Rhapsody. Written by Freddie Mercury on his own (take that, modern day pop artists), the song consists of multiple sections: The opening, ballad, guitar solo, opera, hard rock and the closing. It was unlike anything before – and quite frankly – any attempts to replicate anything... Read More
