Sniffin’ Glue: One Year Publishing, 39 Years of Iconic Status

Are we really celebrating the 40th anniversary of a magazine that lasted just one single year? Yes, yes we are, because it was still influential. Sniffin’ Glue and Other Rock ‘n’ Roll Habits…, to give it its full name, made its debut in the world on this week 40 years ago. Initially the punk music fanzine only sold about 50 copies each month, but as more got to know about it, the numbers would grow to about 15,000. As a fanzine, Sniffin’ Glue was much different to your average published content:... Read More

Happy Birthday John Bonham – On His 68th

Today marks what would’ve been John Bonham‘s 68th birthday. Considered one of the greatest drummers in the rock industry, his fast paced and powerful drumming served to create the iconic sound we all know and love from Led Zeppelin, but Bonham never actually had any professional drumming lessons. Instead, he learned by himself with tips and help from other drummers from his local Redditch region. During his school years, John’s headmaster from his secondary school wrote in his report that he would either “become a dustman or a millionaire”. Good... Read More

Great Scott! Going Back To The Future… Again!

It wasn’t that long ago that we celebrated the day Marty McFly and the Doc came to the year 2015… and it wasn’t quite what we were expecting. However, this time we’re looking back to when Marty went to 1955, and the Enchantment Under The Sea dance, held at Hill Valley High School in the fictional town of Hill Valley, California. (Has anyone tell them that’s an oxymoron…?) On Saturday November 12th, following a series of events which led to the possibility of his parents never meeting and thus not... Read More

Enjoy House Every Weekend…

…and weekdays too, with one of our great new designs: Enjoy House Music! House music has been around for over three decades, with its origins beginning in Chicago in the early 80’s. It didn’t take long for its popularity to grow – by the end of the decade, there were already tracks hitting #1 in the UK, such as Black Box’s “Ride on Time” and M/A/A/R/S’ “Pump Up The Volume”. In the 90’s, a small nightclub opened called Ministry of Sound which focused on this and other styles of dance music... Read More

Some Might Say: The Best Britpop Band Ever!

The important debate that will probably never die: Which Britpop band was better – Oasis or Blur? We’ve already looked at – and discussed – the latter of those two earlier this year when they released “The Magic Whip” back in April. But today, on Liam Gallagher’s 43rd Birthday, we look at the Mancunian group Oasis. Formed in 1991, the group was developed from a previous band called The Rain (named after a Beatles B-Side track) who’d got together earlier that year. When Chris Hutton was replaced as lead singer... Read More

When Debbie Met Music Stardom – Blondie Make Their Mark

So it’s now been 38 years since Blondie signed their first major record label deal with Chrysalis Records, on the 1st September 1977. It all started for the group when Debbie Harry and Chris Stein founded the band in 1974. Considered one of the pioneers of American New Wave and Punk of the mid-late 70’s, they remained a somewhat “underground” group until the release of their third album, Parallel Lines, in 1978. It featured many massive hits for the group, including Call Me, Atomic and the group’s best-selling single, Heart of Glass – one... Read More
