‘Two of music’s finest’ – Celebrating the lives of James Horner and Ben E.King’

2015 has seen an exorbitant amount of unfortunate deaths where legends of music and entertainment are concerned. We’ve seen the passing of some of the most versatile, decorated, influential and beloved megastars.

At TShirtGrill, we’re going to look at some career highlights of James Horner, Cilla Back and Ben. E. King; just a few of the names that are no longer with us. Spanning very different genres, these icons are forever immortalised in popular culture, below we’ll begin to share a tiny portion of their most notable and well-remembered contributions to the world of entertainment.

James Horner

James Horner has reserved a well-deserved place in the Pantheon of musical composers, treating us to some of the most memorable and powerful film scores. He earned a doctorate in musical theory and composition from the renowned University of California, Los Angles and went on to win two Academy Awards for his work in James Cameron’s blockbuster ‘Titanic’.

The list of James Horner inspired movie soundtracks are almost too long to list, but amongst the most well known are: Titanic (1997), Avatar (2009) and A Beautiful Mind (2001).

 Ben E. King

This velvety smooth leading man of ‘Drifters’ fame has influenced almost every artist that came after him in the music industry, and was honoured by several bands and artists such as Dusty Springfield, John Lennon and Led Zeppelin.

Most famous perhaps is his hit ‘Stand By Me’ which went on to become one of the bestselling Soul singles of all time, and highlighted the fantastic 1989 coming of age film ‘Stand By Me’ soundtrack.
