One Life: Celebrating Bob Marley
Everyone’s been getting together and feelin’ alright celebrating the icon that is Bob Marley recently.
This past Tuesday was what would’ve been the Jamaican legend’s 69th birthday – but also everyone’s been looking forward to next week, with the release of the biographical musical film Bob Marley: One Love, which hits UK cinemas next Friday (16th February).
Born in 1945, Marley would have his first big hit in 1965 with “One Love” as part of the group The Wailers. After signing to Island Records and changing the group’s name to Bob Marley & The Wailers, a number of albums later saw their popularity rise and rise until Eric Clapton covered “I Shot The Sheriff”, bringing global recognition to Marley. Finally, in 1975, a live performance of “No Woman, No Cry” would see the group achieve their first UK hit, reaching #22 in the charts.
Bob Marley would eventually go on to achieve 18 Top 40 singles (8 of which were Top 10 hits) from the previously mentioned “No Woman, No Cry” in 1975 all the way to a remix of “Is This Love” being the latest in 2016.
Unfortunately Bob would miss seeing most of this global success, after he passed away from cancer at the age of just 36 in 1981.
Now, we’ll be able to get a further look in to his life with the upcoming film, with Bob Marley’s son Ziggy taking on a role as a producer. For fans of the icon, it’s a can’t-miss.
