Manchester’s Evolution In Music!

One of our latest new designs available at TShirtGrill shows off a brilliant timeline of Manchester’s music scene – all within a 15 year period!

To start, we go back to 1980 with Joy Division and frontman Ian Curtis. The Salford-based group actually formed in 1976 and sadly came to a premature end after Curtis’ passing in 1980. The remaining members of the group later on in the year went on to form New Order, which would lead to even more success for the next decade plus.

In 1985, we have Morrissey leading the group The Smiths, who were active between 1982 and 1987. A number of top 20 singles and top 5 albums would bring the group major success in the UK charts; however internal arguments and struggles meant they would disband in 1987 and have never reunited since – refusing all opportunities to do so.

As we arrive in the “Madchester” era, we get to 1990 and The Stone Roses, fronted by Ian Brown. The group ran from 1983 all the way through to 1996, and then they reformed for another run between 2011-2017. Two top 5 albums and 4 top 10 singles built a legendary career for one of the pioneers of the “Madchester” sound.

Lastly, we look at 1995 and without doubt the most successful of all the groups, Oasis. The kings of BritPop, Liam & Noel Gallagher’s band would amass a total of 8 UK number one singles, as well as the biggest selling single in UK chart history to never be a number one with Wonderwall. The group also achieved 8 number one albums too, before an argument between the brothers would see them split in 2009. Liam Gallagher went solo, and Noel went on to form Noel Gallagher’s High Flying Birds.

If you’re a massive fan of any of these Manchester-based bands, then this new design is perfect for you!
