Dad’s Army – A Comedy Classic

Can you believe the first episode of Dad’s Army was nearly 56 years ago?

One of BBC’s most fondly loved comedies all these decades later, a total of 80 episodes over 9 seasons saw a group of volunteers who took part as the Home Guard as for one reason or another they were all ineligible for military service.

The love for the show has been doing the rounds on social media again this past week after it was announced Ian Lavender, who played Private Pike on the show, sadly passed away at the age of 77. Lavender was the last surviving member of the main cast.

Often voted as one of the funniest moments in British sitcom history according to IMDB, the line “Don’t Tell Him, Pike!” is a line fans of the show will recall as one of the many highlights the show provided from 1968-1977.

There was more to the comedy than just the TV show, however – during its run it was also converted in to a theatre production, as well as a radio show as well!
