In 100 Days, The Force Awakens…

Riiiiiiiiiise… It hardly feels like a few moments ago that we found out there would be episodes 7, 8 and 9 of Star Wars to come – and today marks just 100 days until we get the first of those – Star Wars Episode 7: The Force Awakens. Star Wars has a well-known unique feature, in that the films have not been released in chronological order – the first, A New Hope, is actually episode 4 of the series, released in 1977. Episode 5 (The Empire Strikes Back) was released... Read More

When Debbie Met Music Stardom – Blondie Make Their Mark

So it’s now been 38 years since Blondie signed their first major record label deal with Chrysalis Records, on the 1st September 1977. It all started for the group when Debbie Harry and Chris Stein founded the band in 1974. Considered one of the pioneers of American New Wave and Punk of the mid-late 70’s, they remained a somewhat “underground” group until the release of their third album, Parallel Lines, in 1978. It featured many massive hits for the group, including Call Me, Atomic and the group’s best-selling single, Heart of Glass – one... Read More

The King That Changed Everything

The King is Dead. Words no one wanted to hear, and certainly wasn’t expecting at just 42 years old. But that was exactly what happened on August 16th, 1977. 38 years have passed since arguably the greatest name in music history sadly left us – Elvis Presley. Elvis is possibly the biggest influence to the evolution of music as we know it today. Not only being part of the Rock & Roll scene but finding success in blues, gospel and pop in general, he covered everything. We live in a... Read More

PacMan’s Back, And… Angry?

If you love video games and general goofiness, this upcoming film will probably be perfect for you. This weekend sees the release of Pixels, a film in which NASA sends a capsule to outer space in hopes of making peaceful communications with extra-terrestrials. Unfortunately, these aliens see the footage of video games and interpret them as a declaration of war. So they decide to attack Earth using these video games footage as their methods of assault, as you do. So basically, it’s a space invasion. No seriously, Space Invaders is one... Read More

Remembering Syd Barrett

On this day 9 years ago, we lost one of Pink Floyd‘s founding members, Syd Barrett. The lead singer in the group’s early years, his time didn’t last long after his experimentation with drugs caused erratic behaviour – reported as either strumming one chord for a whole gig, or not even at all. The crowd loved it, not realising what exactly was going on or the remainder of the band’s concerns. Eventually, his place was taken up by David Gilmour, who was replacing Barrett previously during tours whenever Syd didn’t... Read More
