At the request of Henry Ford, his company was to build a race car to try and end the domination of the Scuderia Ferrari team at the event (whose cars had taken overall victory in all runnings of the event in the 60's prior to this).
• Not only did the Ford GT40 take the victory for Bruce McLaren and Chris Amon surprising everyone, but Ford would go on to take wins with the GT40 for the following three years after as well!
• The story behind this incredible event was covered in the 2019 film "Ford vs. Ferrari", bringing it to life to a new audience. This is a must-have for all classic Le Mans & Ford fans!
